Thulusdhoo: Modern Comforts, Timeless Island Culture
Thulusdhoo (pronounced “Thoo-loos-dhoo”) is a vibrant local island in North Male Atoll, just 30 minutes from Velana International Airport. The island is home to six beautiful beaches, including three designated bikini beaches, along with calm turquoise lagoons and house reefs where guests can snorkel freely at no cost.
Internationally known for world-class surf breaks such as Cokes and Chickens, and located close to Ninjas, Jails, Sultans, and Honkeys, Thulusdhoo is a true surfing hub offering surf schools and guided surf trips year-round.
Blending preserved local culture with modern island life, Thulusdhoo also hosts the only Coca-Cola factory in the Maldives. With easy access from Malé and a naturally preserved island setting, it is an ideal destination for travelers seeking adventure, relaxation, and authentic Maldivian charm.
Local Customs & What to Know Before You Visit
Respect for local customs, regulations, and traditions is an important part of visiting Thulusdhoo. While Maldivians are welcoming and familiar with Western cultures, visitors are kindly expected to respect the island’s way of life. This mainly includes dressing modestly in public areas (with bikinis permitted only at designated tourist beaches), being mindful of prayer times, understanding occasional service pauses during religious observances, and following specific guidelines during the month of Ramadan, as well as general local rules- just as in any destination worldwide.
Communication is easy, as English is widely spoken and well understood across the island. Many locals also speak Hindi, making it comfortable for visitors to interact and connect with the community.
